Rihanna Talks Super Bowl Halftime Show: Hints Representation of Carribean Culture in Performance
Rihanna sits down with Nadeska Alexis from Apple Music to talk how she’s been preparing for her Super Bowl performance.
“I have yet to sleep. We were working at the venue all last night and I kinda just stayed there and ended up in a prep and somehow, I’m here at a press conference right now […] I’ve been so focused on the Super Bowl that I forgot my birthday’s coming up. I totally forgot about Valentine’s Day. It’s a lot of preparation, a lot of moving parts,” Rih stated during her opening remarks.
Rihanna intends to maximize her 13-minute set and described it as a celebration of her catalogue in the best way that she could have put it together. She even hinted that there are 39 versions of the set list.
“You only have 13 minutes, that’s the challenge, so you’re trying to cram 17 years of work into 13 minutes,” she explained. “So it’s difficult. You know, some songs we have to lose because of that, and that’s gonna be okay. But I think we did a pretty good job of narrowing it down.”
Nadeska asked if there will be an elements of Carribean culture within her show, the Fenty mogul responded by stating “I mean that’s a big part of why this is important for me to do this show, representation, representing for immigrants, representing for my country Barbados, representing for black women everywhere, I think that’s really important, that’s key for people to see the possibilities and I’m honor to be here honored to be doing this”.
This will be Rihanna’s first performance in just over six years. Watch the full press conference below.
